Spirulina as an ingredient is a huge trend in the western countries. It is a sea algae which is loaded with minerals. Even Indian skin care brands have started incorporating spirulina into their products. My introduction to the whole benefits of spirulina happened with Kaura Soothe Mask. Kaura is a sustainable skincare brand from India, they make organic and handmade skincare, haircare and varities of soaps ranging from soap bars to whipped soaps.
So here is my experience with spirulina Soothe Mask after using it for a month.

I admire how Indian brands are coming up with sustainable packaging. Kaura has gone completely plastic free in terms of their product packaging. My Experience
As I have mentioned before that this is my first time trying spirulina sea algae for skin care I was very excited to try this mask. The name itself is “Soothe” so I already had a vision of how this mask would feel once applied. Kaura Soothe Mask is very fine and light weight powder, it’s got slight ashy-green colour to it. I did a patch test on my neck & jawline the first day because of the new ingredient. It went well, so I applied the mask on my whole face and neck two days later. The super fine powder makes a creamy smooth, soft green coloured face mask when mixed with water or curd. The mask applied like velvet on my skin, it is so thin, super light, spreads like butter and feels very very soohing on skin. To my surprise it dried out completely in less than five minutes so I washed it off. I saw immediate results after washing it off. My skin felt soft, smooth and open pores were visibly smaller. It also left my skin very hydrated and moisturize. This is due to spirulina, aloe vera and the oils present in it. I also felt like my skin feels a bit tighter and looks brighter. So it is safe to say that Kaura Soothe Mask alone does the job of a lot of different products.
Now coming back to application, I used plain water the first few times but it smells kinda off to be very honest. I did not like the smell at all. People who like the smell of sea can tolerate this but I had to find some alternative so I mix some honey or use hydrosols instead of plain water to mask the smell of it. For body I mix it with tomato paste or curd or sometimes both and this mixture does the job perfectly. I like to use this mask on my body after a nice scrubbing session which is once a week. This Soothe Mask is a potent formulation for any skin inflammation issues. I enjoyed using this in summer and I feel like people with body acne issues are gonna love this.
The best part about this Soothe Mask is that you need the tiniest amount possible to make a thin paste and voila, it serves your purpose. All skin types can safely use this, though I would highly recommend a patch test before applying this on face, just to make sure the ingredients suit your skin. I limit the application allover my face to once a week only, because aloe vera somehow irritates my skin when used frequently. So far Kaura Soothe Mask has not irritated my skin at all, instead it has calmed down my active acne when applied as a spot treatment.
In case you have extremely dry skin you can mix a few drops of honey or your favorite facial oil to the final mixture for some extra nourishment. My skin is mostly oily in summer so I did not feel the need to add anything extra for my face. This Soothe Mask alone with plain water does the job.
I use this once a week on face and body and on acne as spot treatment on inflamed acne. It calms down the inflammation instantly and reduces the size of acne in a day or two, helps drying out the acne faster.
Also I would like to mention that Kaura Soothe Mask does not clog my pores instead it unclogs the pores and hence pores appear reduced in size. My pores get clogged in no time and I get acne mainly due to clogged pores. So I always wipe my skin with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water after washing off any face mask. In case of this soothe mask I got absolutely no residue left on the cotton pad which made me really happy. I am very satisfied with Kaura Soothe Mask and I recommend everyone to try it out once, especially if you have acne and inflammation, a must try if you are someone who loves to try new interesting ingredients or formulations.
Pros
- Does what it claims. Soothes inflammation, reduces pores and removes dullness.
- Contains spirulina, a sea algae known to have immense anti-inflammatory properties which makes Kaura Soothe Mask a potent formulation for acne prone skin type.
- Effectively reduces pore size and angry red acne over time.
- Very fine powder which makes a velvety soft paste. It dries very quickly when mixed with water. Good for a quick masking session.
- Easy to wash off, does not clog pores at all.
- Leaves skin hydrated, smooth and supple yet tightens pores.
- Can be used by all skin types.
- Organic, not tested on animals.
- A tiny bit of the powder is required for the entire face. This Soothe Mask is not meant for direct application because it is concentrated, you need to mix it with curd or fruit paste for application on body which makes it last long. It is definitely gonna last you very long if you use it only on your face.
Cons
- Smell funny, I personally do not enjoy the smell at all. So I like to mix fragrant floral hydrosols or honey when I apply it on face.
